It's a real disgrace what happened in Iraq to such rich, invaluable archaeological evidence. I'm sure that the implications of all of the destruction/looting of the historical record will be felt decades from now.
It's a hard lesson in life that everyone would be well served to learn: We can't understand our present or our future without reaching into our past and learning to respect our roots. It's such a simplistic idea, but, if we would examine our past we would learn that we're all cut from a common cloth and whatever we do to our brothers and sisters across the world we're doing to ourselved. In my opinion, this is one of the lessons that archaeology can teach us.
