Does this mean we went back in time?

Ok, I'm not a tolkien fan and know nothing of his books and I was wondering, since we go to Middle Earth which I would think existed before our current time, did we go back in time? And if we did then the events which occured would have changed history or created a paradox for us to know what and how to do the things we did in Valinor! And no, this isn't a complaint it's just an interesting observation I made. Whattaya think? Well see ya's, Shorty.
