Greetings fan fic writers. As you may know, due to the lack of confidence that both Lucasfilm and Bantam Books have demonstrated toward the Indiana Jones novel series, I-- A determined adventure writer-- was forced to retool The Golden Voyage of Indiana Jones, a complete IJ novel into a new adventure featuring an original hero, Nick Kismet. Although I am quite pleased with the result, and hope to one day see Nick Kismet adventures on all of your bookshelves, I have never forgotten my roots..i.e. Indy. I still have both Golden Voyage as an Indy story on my website, and have revised its immediate sequel, The Unrevealed Heart to incorporate Indy as the hero. Both stories are available at the Temple of Tales website if you just must have Indy as your hero. However, I would encourage you to read the Nick Kismet novels at the link below, for a very good reason...

Here's the very good reason:
The newest Nick Kismet novel, End in Fire, will NOT be rewritten as an Indy story. Why? Because in the very first chapter, Indy makes an appearance, helping Nick save a plane that has just been sabotaged. Indy will continue as a character for a few chapters of the story, then they will go their separate ways, with Nick pursuing one facet of the story, and Indy another. (Indy will leave after helping to translate a Mayan glyph. I was thinking that the glyph may contain two possible leads, one which Nick will follow, the other for Indy, but nothing is carved in stone yet.)

Kismet will be involved in a plot to unify all of central America under a revolutionary government, will crack a ring of antiquities smugglers and find a mysterious artifact that may explain what happened to the Mayan empire.

Indy will... well, that's where you come in. I want the best story for what Indy does during the period of time following his parting with Kismet. He doesn't have to stay in central America, though it might be a good idea since he will end up with Kismet again at the end. I really don't care as long as the story is well written (and I will be very exacting) The best story will eventually find a home on the Nick Kismet website.

I hope all of you will take the challenge seriously. Please e-mail me if you have any questions, or would like to submit a story. The ideal story will be 50 to 60,000 words, and feature original characters, including a romantic lead. The events should take place over a period of time no longer than a week. What you decide to send him after and where is up to you, but if you choose a 'real' artifact, that is to say one based on a common myth or rumor, be sure that you treat in the most accurate way possible. I would prefer that the character be refered to in the narrative as 'Jones' with 'Indy' reserved for dialogue. This is a more professional way of representing the character-- it is amateurish to refer to a male lead character by his first name, to say nothing of a shortened form of his nickname. I won't set forth a lot of ground rules, but I wil be very picky, so do your best.
