Indiana Jones and the Power of the Ancients Part 1

Summer 1941- The Mato Grosso area of Brazil

A small caravan is tracking through the dense jungle. It has been three days since they left the boat and began the trek inland. This is forbidding territory, belived to be the home of cannibals, and other dangerous creatures.

"Why are we doing this?" Tomez asked to the porter beside him.

"Because, we are being very well paid by the crazy Yanqui." Rafael whispers.

"But I have heard bad things about this area."

"What bad things?"

"They say that many years ago, a European came here and journeyed into this region, looking for El Dorado I guess. Anyway, he and his entire expedition vanished, swallowed up by the jungle."

"Don't go spreading that among the rest of the men, they may decide to desert, and will leave us out here alone with him." Rafael said, pointing to the man, wearing a brown fedora, and a bullwhip at his side.

Indiana Jones was beginning to wonder what he was doing here. It had been several years since he had last come to Brazil. Now he was here to close a chapter on his past. He remembered the first time he had come here, almost 15 years ago. Then he was searching for the famed explorer Percy Fawcett, who had disappeared while searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon. He had journeyed into the Amazon with his new wife, Deirdre, but afterward everything sort of became a blank. He could sometimes remember some things, but never very clearly. One thing he did know was that Deirdre had been killed in a plane crash in the jungle. That was the reason, he was here today was to finally find Deirdre's body and return it home to her native Scotland. This would finally bring some closure to Indy's life, because he knew he could never committ to a woman like Sophia Hapgood with Deirdre still haunting him.

Boy do I have rotten luck with women he thought as he suddenly saw something up ahead. He signaled a halt and walked on up ahead to see what it was.
