: : Also, what's the deal with these Indy stories where all you appear? I'm just wondering what the appeal is? I'm not being deliberately volatile or anything. It just seems a little . . . indulgent that's all.

:
: First of all it did start with Deirdre's little "goodbye" to Tessa sometime ago when Tessa took a trip to Poland. I don't think Shorty meant to blame anything on her, besides there is nothing to blame.

: Next, yes it is kinda like Role-Playing, yet at the same time it isn't. The reason it isn't is that when one of the many other authors writes a chapter you have no control over your character. Theoreticaly, one person could write a chapter and have their character kill off all the other character, this would probably be rejected though and a new chapter written.

: The reason I enjoy it is that first it gives me a chance to practice novel-type writting, something I enjoy very much. Another thing is that when using the people from the forum, I have personalities that I know from posts and ICQ to base the actions/emotions of that character on. Another thing I like is that using a character that is "you," brings the story a little closer to home. In the Tessa and the Stranger IN the Plane story, I was a badguy, naturaly I wanted the goodguys to win, but that didn't keep me from rooting for "me" and writing my self to be the best badguy I could imagine.

: Part of the fun is that each person wants their character to be the best, yet every other author has control over the happenings for at least one chapter. This causes a sort of tension in waiting for the next chapter, because you have no idea what that author will do with your character. But then your "turn" comes and everyone else feels some of that tension while you create your chapter, and control all the characters as you wish. On the Golden Spider story I think that all the authors have been realy generous to the other author's characters, so as not to seriously offend anyone.

: Maybe to fully understand the appeal, you should try and join in Hannibal... if it doesn't grab you the way it has some of us, then we can kill off your character =) but if it does grab you, we shall have another ally and corhort in the writting of these stories.
