Chapter 1 - School Daze

---by Reggie

November, 1937 - Princeton New Jersey, 5:00AM

    Rinnnng!

Indy's wind-up alarm clock's hammer slammed between the two shiny silver bells in a blur of speed. Indy's eyes slowly opened. He took in a gulp of air and rolled over and flipped the switch that kept the hammer from moving. He got up and shuffled to the closet to get his robe. The door hinges screamed and begged to be oiled. He wrapped his robe around himself and tied the belt. He gazed at his jacket with tiny holes in the back from being dragged under a German military truck. The straps on the sides were beginning to separate from the jacket and the elbows had holes in them the size of a dime. He shuttered when he looked at the upper left sleeve and saw where the bullet from a P-38 missed his heart and hit his arm instead. Indy took his index finger and stuck it in the bullet hole. It was stained with dried blood and the edges were stiff. That moment on that day, Indy thought it was the end of him. Indy looked up at his fedora. The pinch in the front seemed like eyes and his hat stared right back. He remembered the man who gave it to him from his adolescent years. "If only could run into him again," Indy thought. "That would be something."

After a hot shower, Indy got dressed and walked to the living room. He turned the knob and a loud "click" filled the room. The dial lit up and gave a pleasant glow. He poured a bowl of Kellogg's Corn Flakes. He looked at a picture of Marion on the counter. Things weren't going to well between them. After bringing her back to the States from Nepal, he thought all the mistakes and misunderstandings they had in the past were forgotten. Indy sighed. He got up and put his empty bowl in the sink and went to the closet. He got his fedora from the shelf and put it on his head. The leather sweatband was cool against his forehead. He got his keys and went to start up the Ford.
