Chapter 2
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!!
"Dr. Jones!" Shorty called.
"Short Round or Shorty?" Indy called back. He opened the door.
Short Round looked much younger than his thirty years, but he had progressed since their 1935 adventure, much so. He was carrying a suitcase and wore clothes that almost looked liked large versions of his original clothes.
"It's like they say, Dr. Jones, old habits die hard."
"Either one 'ey Shorty? Thanks for coming."
"I was glad to. I still don't know all the details."
Indy was followed back to his room by Shorty, and Indy continued to pack.
"Actually, I'm still kind of foggy, too. A young man, probably about 20, named Joshua Byrnes called. He said he represented a man who had made a find, a tablet with strange inscriptions on it. He was a friend of the man's son and recommended me."
"I thought you were retired."
"Well, it's just translating, so I accepted, but after this, it's all over."
Short gave a "yeah, right" smirk and Indy grinned in response.
"Where's our destination?"
"Hill Valley, California."
Indy pulled out a rugged leather jacket, a beaten fedora, a pair of khakis and a bullwhip.
Shorty smiled his same old youthful smile.
* * *
Indy sat quietly on the plane with Short Round. The boy kept glancing at two shady characters in the the other row.
"Indy, I don't like this."
"What?"
"Well, look." Shorty pointed within the boundaries of his chest area at the two men. One was round with a small mustache and a black leather coat. The other was lean and somewhat muscular, but definitely nothing like a body builder.
"Hm, they do look suspicious. Just don't get all jittery on me."
"Whatever."
Later, the attendent woke up Indy, saying,
"Sir, we'll be landing in a moment, so you'll need to fasten your seat belt."
"Thank you."
When they got into the airport, Indy went to the seats and walked casually.
"Doctor, erm, Mister Jones!"
Indy walked to the voice. The boy was definitely in his early twenties, with slick reddish-blond hair and a youthful face.
"Joshua Byrnes?"
"Mister Jones, it's a pleasure to meet you!"
"Thank you."
They shook hands. Then a gun was shot.
