: Just a small sample to see if anyone is interested in this.
: It came about after my friends on a SW forum got hyped about the Blair Witch Project movie. This is its 'prequel'. I got good review from everyone I showed it to, so far. Enjoy!

: Prologue

:
: Barnett College
: Two Days before Halloween
: 1940

: It had been several minutes since the bell rang to announce
: the end of another school day. Indiana Jones sat at his desk,
: assembling the myriad of different term papers and class reports
: scattered upon his desk. Out of the corner of his eye his caught the
: shape of a human figure in the doorway of the classroom.
: ìMay I bother you for a minute, Indiana?î the man, Dr.
: Leonard, asked.
: Indy looked up at him. He wasnít wearing his usual suit,
: and he carried a suitcase in his left arm. ìOf course you may
: Richard. Your vacation starts today?î Indy said in a friendly tone.
: ìActually tommorow. But the train leaves in ten minutes,î
: Leonard smiled. ìI canít wait to get back to Burkittsville. I havenít
: been there for years.î
: ìYour hometown?î Indy asked.
: ìNot much of a town as a village. Just under two hundred
: people. A quaint little place. Quite placid. You should visit
: sometime,î Richard said.
: ìYeah. I could use one. But I already used up most of my
: vacation on that trip to Halicarnassus,î Indy said.
: ìYouíll have to tell me that one sometime,î Richard said,
: smiling, ìif itís as half as interesting as the others.î
: ìSo, that part of your costume?î Indy asked, pointing a
: finger at the green bauble hanging around Richardís neck.
: ìOh, this,î Richard said, lifting it from his chest with his
: right hand. ìNo. Actually, itís part of my sonís costume. You
: know, Gary.î
: ìYes,î Indy said. Indy knew that Gary was the real reason
: Richard was going to Burkittsville. He hadnít seen his son in years,
: since his split with his wife. Richard rarely talked about Gary, but
: shared the information with Indy, as some sort of payback for all
: those tales that indy told of his ìfield workî.
: ìItís called the Jaded Eye,î Richard said, pride in his voice,
: ìitís been in my family since at least the 1800s, maybe sooner. It
: has always been passed down to the firstborn. Since my sonís going
: as a wizard this year, I thought Iíd give him this as a pendant of
: protection.î
: ìMay I see it?î Indy asked.
: ìOf course,î Richard replied, taking the gem from his neck
: and handing it to Indy. He pulled out a magnifying glass, and
: scrutinized it.
: ìWhy a pendant of protection?î Indy asked, curious.
: ìOh. My son is still afraid of the legend of the Blair Witch.î
: ìBlair Witch?î
: ìYeah. A local legend of a witch that cast a curse on the
: nearby woodland. Supposively thereís been some murders
: perpetrated by the witch, but, like I said, legend. Every New
: England village has at least one. But I thought that giving him this
: would calm some of his fears.î Indy nodded, directing most of his
: attention at the Jaded Eye. ìIt is a quite a specimen, isnít it?î
: ìYes. The carving of the eye is exquisite. A masterful work.
: Your family has kept it in pristene condition.î Indy handed the
: bauble back to Richard.
: ìThank you.î Richard placed the Jaded Eye back around his
: neck. ìNow then. I came here for a spicific reason. Iíve arranged
: for an alternative for my class for the next few days. I her your
: name as a reference, in case she as any problems. Is that okay?î
: ìThatís fine, Richard. Glad to help,î Indy said.
: ìAlso, hereís the number of the only phone in Burkittsville,î
: Richard handed Indy a small scrap of paper. ìI gave it to the dean,
: as well, but I thought that my sub might come to you for help, first.
: As for Dr. Leonard.î
: ìAlright,î Indy said, shoving the piece of paper into his
: pocket.
: ìWell, thatís about it,î Richard said, looking at his watch.
: ìAnd Iím already late. Iíll see you Monday, then, Indy.î
: ìAlright, Richard. Have a good time,î Indy said.
: Richard quickly left, making up for lost time. Indy was
: alone, once again, facing a pile of papers. Indy sighed, sitting back
: down in his chair and picking up the paper nearest him, and began
: reading.
: Ark of the Covenant: Fact or Fiction?...
