Actually, that was Chapter 38, and I was the co-author of that one. :)

The reason I picked the shoulder as opposed to the chest was to emphasize that Brett (his character in the story... not him in real life) is a self-proclaimed "computer geek", and not a professional shooter (like you, Indiana Jerico, Indy, etc.). He hit your shoulder instead of your chest because of the recoil of the Magnum; even at so close a range, it can jump in the hands of the inexperienced (especially a gun with the force of a Magnum!)!
