Hi---
I put this story on the Indyfan Forum a few months ago, but I figured since there is a forum exclusively for fan fiction now, I would put it on here, too. I wrote this in about twenty minutes, so if you don't care for it, I'll understand!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
As I started re-writing it, I added some stuff, so it is somewhat a different story. Hope you enjoy!!

GREECE 1937

Indiana Jones stepped down from his horse as the sun was just rising over the mountain.

He stood in front of the cave; the cave he had been digging in for three days. So far, it had yeilded nothing but blisters on Indy's hands. If he didn't find something today, he would be forced to go back to Barnett College a failure.

That was not an option!

Indy entered the cave, which was really two caves in one, and his eyes quickly adjusted to the dimness. He lit a torch, then walked past what Indy had deemed the "Hall of Statues," a collection of seemingly randomly placed sculptures in various positions throughtout the front cave. He was always in awe of how life-like they were.

The morning was going well. He had gotten off to an early start, and there had been no sign of Alexandre Stephanopolos. The Greek archaeologist had a bad reputation of stealing other's discoveries, and he had been dogging Indy since he had arrived in Greece.

Indy entered the rear cave. There was only one section that had been untouched, and that was the area that Indy would concentrate on today. He walked to the far rear corner of the cave, put the torch in a holder, and began digging.

For hours, it seemed, Indy dug with no success, when finally he was rewarded with the sound of his shovel hitting something solid.

Indy picked up his pace, and soon the dirt was cleared from the edges of the large rectangular stone box. With a brush, he swept away dirt from the Ancient Greek characters which adorned the top.

"Surrender your soul," Indy read,"all Ye who dare defile the tomb of Perseus."

"The obligatory curse," Indy said, aloud, as he removed a small pry bar from his bag. He pried along several locations on the top of the crypt. A hiss was heard as the lid popped free. Indy's biceps bulged as he lifted the stone capper and flipped it over so that it leaned against the wall.

There, where it had laid for over three-thousand years, was the skeleton of the Greek hero, Perseus.

Lying along one side of the cadaver was a razor-sharp sword. The corpse's chest held a shield with a finish that still reflected like a mirror. On the skeleton's feet were clad in winged sandals, and between the feet was a large leather bag.

Indy took the shield from the body, and set it against the wall to get a better look at the body.

Next, he took the bag from the crypt. Curiosity, as usual, got the best of him! Indy sat the bag on the ground, and slowly slipped the bag from around it.

The first thing Indy saw was the head of a snake, and he jumped back in fright. Realizing that it was only a snake's skeleton, he laughed at the absurdity of his fear.
He pulled the snake skeleton gingerly from the sack, and found many more, all attached to a hideous, deformed skull. Indy dropped the skull, again recoiling in fear, then pulled his hankerchief from his pocket and placed it over the skull where it lay on the ground.

"Back to work," Indy said, as he turned back to the crypt. Indy grabbed the sword, which immediately drew blood.

"Damn," Indy said, holding his lacerated hand. "This just doesn't seem to be my day."

Indy pulled the hankerchief from the skull, and used it to stop the bleeding. The bleeding waned and Indy replaced the hankerchief over the skull.

Returning to the task at hand, Indy examined the shoes, which supposedly had made Perseus invisible. If they had, they weren't working now.

Suddenly, from behind him, Indy heard a hiss.

In the reflection of the shield, Indy saw the most terrifying thing he had ever witnessed.

The ugly, reptilian creature stood over Indy, the tangled mass of serpents on its head slithering and hissing.

With lightning-fast reflexes, Indy grabbed the sword and swung it. In the shield's reflection, he saw the weapon make contact, and the monster's head separate from its body.

Indy breathed heavily as he picked the head up and put it back in the bag, taking great care to not look upon the face of Medusa.

Indy had to take the head somewhere, and although he didn't know where, he rose to leave the cave.

"I can always get my stuff later," Indy said to himself, as he walked through te "Hall of Statues", which Indy now realized were Medusa's previous victims. From behind one of the statues stepped a man with a gun.

"Alexandre," Indy said.

"You are quite persistant," Stephanopolos said.

"I try."

"What's in the bag, Jones?"

Indy said,"You don't want to know."

"I assure you, Dr. Jones," Stephanopolos said, taking the bag from Indy," that I do."

Stephanopols opened the bag and pulled the head from it.

The Greek archaeologist's screams reverberated from the walls of the cave as the blood thickened in his veins and his skin hardened to stone.

Indy walked out of the cave, leaving the Gorgon's head embedded in the stone of Stephanopolos' hands, and mounted his horse for the ride back to Athens.

More adventures waited.
