And something tells me that they don't want to...

: A friend of mine visited Russia recently, and when he visited his relatives they questioned him on how much he made at his job (he makes okay money, but nothing great). After telling them his salary, they got mad at him (jealousy, maybe?). He then tried to explain to them about having to pay taxes, expenses, etc., but they refused to listen! He said it was actually kind of funny (Russians can be very stubborn!). :)

: As far as fashion, I guess Eastern Europe hasn't yet been that "Americanized" yet. When my family and I visited Brazil two years ago, I basically wore jeans, plain dark t-shirts (instead of my sports-logo t-shirts - they probably wouldn't have known the teams anyways), and occasionally my plain gray SJSU sweatshirt (from my alma mater, San Jose State University), and I more or less blended in. What also helped is that Brazil, Argentina, and perhaps Chile are the three nations in South America with a sizable amount of people European descent (kind of like America)... I'm sure that if I walked in the middle of Bolivia or Peru, I would definitely stand out! :)

: I guess my point is that it depends if the American culture and fashion has reached a certain country or not.

Europe tends to have its own sense of fashion and style; and I tend to appreciate it...
There is something so "classic" in their way of dressing, which really stands out against the "vularity" of American dressing.
I noticed that they know how to appreciate basic colors (white, blue, gray & most especially black).
If you really think about it; it's practical. You can wear your clothes for a longer time period, without being "out"[of fashion that is].

Mon dieu,
Deirdre
