: : : : : I do not recall a post about episodes; except for that of purchasing them.
: : : : :
: : : : : I liked many of the episodes featuring Sean Patrick Flannery; but did not really care for the kid.
: : : : :
: : : : : One of my biggest disappointments was seeing the Jacket totally absent;
: : : : : and seeing the whip only once!
: : : : :
: : : : : What is everyone's opinion on the YIJC?

: : : : I only saw a few of these. My thoughts were that it was mildly entertaining, but not very exciting stuff. The character portrayed wasn't very Indiana Jones to my mind. The episodes also were not very exciting. In fact I often found them rather tedious. They seemed more concerned with giving us a history lesson than the films were, and sacrificed the action in order to do this. The worst things about YIJC for me were:-

: : : : a) the rather unconvincing way it would try to give a different perspective to real historical events by suggesting that Indiana Jones played a significant part in making them happen;

: : : : b) the portrayal of Indiana Jones as a bitter, eccentric old man verging on insanity, at the end of the episodes;

: : : : and finally c) the poor version of the Indiana Jones hat Flannery wears which, to my mind, has all the wrong proportions when compared to the film versions;

: : : : Maybe the series got better as time went on, but it didn't hold my interest long enough for me to give it a chance.

: : : : Adios,

: : : Yeah! Every episode should have been set in the 1930's and starred Harrison Ford (working with a huge paycut for the fans). They should have had the tone of the Raider's opening teaser every week, not straying a bit. And Nazis, yeah, they needed more Nazis. And John Williams Raider's March playing the entire time. They needed to press the viewers' thrill buttons with the music from Raiders of the Lost Ark. And all those complex historical plots, well-rounded characters, and moral themes should have been replaced with easy-to-comprehend action sequences. Man, Lucas really blew it. He could have produced a two-hour Indiana Jones movie with Harrison Ford every week. What a loser!

: : That's very good nitzsche.

: : There is often more than one way of doing something well. The YIJC did not need to be a carbon copy of the Indy films, of course. However, I did expect it to have a similar feel to the films, which to my mind it didn't. Is this too much to expect from a series that is clearly a spin-off from the films, targeted at Indiana Jones fans such as you and I. I don't think so.

: : I suppose, nitzsche, that you would have been equally contented with a surrealistic Hungarian animation, as long as the central character was called Indy.

: : Adios,

: I'm not trying to be antagonistic, but ABC pulled the series because they deemed it too violent, when in reality, it was just too sophisticated for popcorn viewers. The series is a masterpiece, and the reason it panned was because of the people who wouldn't give it a chance. Lucas' intention was to educate young viewers while entertaining them via a famous character. Thus, the weekly 'history lesson'. He eventually wanted to expand it as an educational tool on CD-ROM for classroom use. I don't know if that will happen now. He did, in fact, begin to develop 2-hour adventure style Indy movies for the audience who didn't like the meatier episodes. But, alas it was too late.

And isn't this a sad fact too? Not necessarily the pulling of the series, but the reasoning. Everything shown was a pale reflection, though VERY well done, of historical facts. War, poverty, espionage, etc. In the media's zeal for the practice of revisionist history, they throw the baby out with the bath water. Unless we learn from past "mistakes", we will be for ever doomed to repeat them. Their practice to sugar coat, or eliminate from view the path we've taken to get here will sooner or later catch up with us. I think Lucas was doing a great service teaching with the best tool he had at hand. It's a real shame what idiots there are out heading up the broadcast world. Regards. Michaelson
