Ever since seeing the Peacock's Eye I wondered the same thing. If some writer did that on purpose, I tip my fedora to him. As far as speculation... we can only hope. That diamond meant so much to Remee, perhaps Indy wanted to get it back for letting him down. True friendship is worth any artifact... and this is coming from an archaeologist!
