: Hi everybody. I received my David Morgan whip today from Azuma...thanks Azuma. Anyway, after trying it out in the backyard and beating myself to death..not to mention loosing my eyesight I decided maybe I better find out how to use it properly. Anyone have any sugestions as to books or videos that could teach me how to use it and possibley keep myself from giving my chin a nice scar? Thanks a lot

DrHose, You can find whip training videos at the following sites.

I highly recommend the two "Whipcracking made easy videos" by Alex Green and Mark Allen as well as "Mastering the Bullwhip" volumes I and II by Anthony Delongis. These four will get you going on the right track. The other videos are good too, and are definitely worth viewing as well. There is also the book "Whips and whip making" by David Morgan which contains lots of valuable information.

For more information on whipcracking visit the Bullwhip FAQ at

And Matt's whip site at http://home.clara.net/ourhouse/
Both have lots of links to other whip related areas you might find interesting.

As for some general safety information, remember whips can be dangerous to both the handler and to anyone with in your general area. For this reason you should take some precautions. Always make sure nothing is with in the your way. That includes People, pets, wires, trees, cars, buildings etc. The last thing you want to do is accidentally hit anyone. It's always a good Idea to wear some protective clothing, especially since your just starting out. A leather jacket and a sturdy hat are both good ideas. I almost always recommend wearing some type of safety goggles or glasses. Cuts and welts will heal, but if you injure your eyes that is another story. If you expect to do a great deal of loud cracks you might also want to think about using earplugs or other ear protectors. Most of that's common sense stuff, but its definitely important. Anyway congratulations on the new whip. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions let us know.

Dan
