Yup, did I mention that my favorite non-Indy movie is his PATHS OF GLORY? :)
He was my favorite director after Speilberg. It was interesting to here that
Spielberg used to talk to him. I wonder what their conversations were like?
I understand Spielberg could be a real fanboy when chatting with his idols.
He once had lunch with Orson Wells. Wells was trying to get Speilberg to help
raise money for a movie he wanted to make but all Spielberg would do is keep
asking questions about Citizen Kane. He loves that movie so much he paid
something like $10,000 for a sled used for the movie. Orson Wells used to
joke that the sled was a fake and apparantly Speilber was annoyed with Wells
for these jokes. Anyhow Speilberg never helped Wells get financing for his
movie and he died not long after their meeting. This lunch was detailed in a
recent biography about Spielberg
