: I don't have a problem with someone wearing a leather jacket that looks like (or is an exact replica of) Indy's. Or even wearing a Fedora like his. Or wearing the whole costume to a theme party, dance or Halloween party. I'm talking about people who trek through the woods wearing gear that Indy himself wouldn't wear if he'd had better choices. Remember, there was no such thing as goretex in the 1930's. (in fact I had a thought for the next movie- if they were to set it in the 50's and Indy had a son, I would outfit the son in one of those nylon green bomber jackets, like Costner in Bull Durham) You'd never catch Indy in leather in South America today. I'm talking about people who are playing Indiana Jones. It's kind of, well, strange.

Things like Goretex and Polartec have their place and their market. But companies like Filson, Willis & Geiger, Carrhart, Cabela, and others sell traditional fabrics, as were used 50 to 150 years ago, before anyone heard of polyester and nylon, and they are very comfortable and probably more durable than the "high-tech" fabrics of today. I use both. Depends on the occasion. Also, I live in a very warm climate and wear wool suits year round. It's the right weight of wool that counts.
