This is a geat discussion. I think that Fedora was so important because Fedora showed Indy that what he liked to do, could get the job done. Rather than wasting time and running for help, Indiana discovered that taking matters into your own hands could turn out to be succesful(not in his very first adventure though). When Fedora crowned young Indy with the felt hat, it was the symbol of himself, of what he was, and what he was to be.
