: : : After watching temple last night I may have a solution to why the bag in temple has three drainage holes instead of only two. They wanted people to know it wasn't an authentic bag that was burning. Anyone who would have made any fuss over an authentic bag would have known it only has two drain holes. Maybe?

: : : Also, I noticed the strap wasn't broken as I thought it was. The strap is in two parts. One part is a loop with the slide buckle on the end. The other end is only a leather strap. Does this arrangement really work, or are the bags he carries throughout the film one piece and the made a bag two pieces specificaly for the bridge scene?

: : Andy-

: : The three drain hole issue has stumped me for a while myself. My
: : spin on it is that they perhaps required an extra hole for allowing
: : more ventilation into the bag--remember the fact that fire requires
: : oxygen to burn. So, in order for the burning effect to work
: : properly, they would need to have more ventilation coming into the
: : bag, so there's perhaps the reason for an extra drainage hole.

: : Also note the conspicous patch where the stones will eventually
: : fall through--the patch doesn't quite match the rest of the bag
: : (though it's a pretty good match) and is again necessary for the
: : effect to work properly. It was probably not cloth so that the
: : burning effect could be more controlled.

: : As for the strap; yes, it has always technically been one piece with
: : a loop on one end which is riveted to the buckle post while the other
: : end of the strap is riveted to the "O" ring on the bag. Also note that
: : the buckle has a small slider on it. An authentic bag buckle should
: : have "ENGLAND" stamped on the inside of the buckle (of course you
: : don't see it on film, but for those in the know). The purpose of the
: : loop is to adjust the strap.

: : Okie dokie, Dr. Jones, hope that helps out.

: You posted while I was writing my reply. I wanted to ask, how did you find out about the bag strap? Did you get to see an actual prop? If you did I'm very jealous :-)>

red four-

I'm sorry, I have not seen an actual prop from any of the films.
I wish!
However, leather hardware is not exactly the most variety-packed
item out there. And since the Indy films have been primarily U.K.
productions, the closer you get to a buckle with any U.K. markings,
the closer you are getting to an authentic replica. Consider too
that the U.K. is probably not the leather hardware capital of the
universe :D

P.S. And no, I am not a dominatrix on my days off :D
