Yeah, this was the early concept for Toht, inspired by Dr Strangelove. The scene with the image of the medallion being burnt into Toht's hand was even more realistic when Toht's hand was actually meant to be plastic or rubber.

Of course, in the film it's not, I'm just saying that when the idea came up, it probably was.
