Here's what I think could've happened to them:
Indy, Willie and Shorty got to Delhi, but when they got there Shorty had to go back to whatever place they were at. There were some adoptive parents there and Indy thought that was the best thing for Shorty. He couldn't have Shorty staying with him as much as he'd like him too. Willie got too involved with her music career and ended up falling for New York instead of Indy.
