Is it possible?

I was just watching the rope bridge sequence in Temple of Doom.
Something I realized was that, given the huge span of the gorge,
is it possible for those Thugee guards to shoot their arrows ALL
THE WAY across and still hit the general area around Indy? An arrow
loses its velocity and speed after awhile. That gorge was about
three hundred feet across. I would tend to think that the arrows
would begin to drift downward the moment they are shot. Any thoughts
on this?
