: : : : : Why the bullet didn't go through that Nepalese guy and hit Indy when Marion shot him (w/a Mauser "Broomhandle"?) in the bar fight.

: : : : : Abner

: : : : : : : When Indy is on the tank and he shoots the P-38, it goes through three Nazi's. I just don't think that would happen. Would it??

: : : : : : : Indy

: : : : : : Yes. Regards. Michaelson

: : : : I think the only way a 9mm would go through three guys would be if the bullet didn't hit any bones or metal parts of uniforms (buckles, buttons, etc.), and if that were the case it probably wouldn't have killed any of them so quickly let alone all three. However, I believe the humor of the scene regarding Indy's reaction is more important than the accuracy of the ballistics involved, and that goes for the Raiders scene as well.

: : : Also depends on what KIND of bullet is loaded in that particular round. Full metal jacket? Hollow point? Lead? Lots of things to consider in bullet performance. Regards. Michaelson

: : Michaelson is right. If one were to carve an X into the tip of say a 30-30 bullet and shot it (from the 30-30 mind you) it could boar a good sized hole into or through a tree.

:
: That may be so, but you're talking about a cartridge that can fire a 150 grain bullet at 2100-2400 fps. A 9mm military (FMJ) round is usually only 124 grains with a muzzle velocity around 1100 fps. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, it just seems unlikely that in real life you'd be able to kill three guys so quickly with just one shot. Just my humble opinion. P.S. You are right about the .30-30 going through a tree, I've done it before. :)

I've also fired a full metal jacket armor piercer military 9mm round though a 7 inch oak post with no expansion of the bullet, definately more substantial than three people standing together. I had NO problem believing this sequence in Last Crusade. Regards. Michaelson
