In regard to the previous discussions, I had the opportunity a few years ago to attend a class sponsored by our company which concerned etiquette in business, including overseas travel. Some very experienced travelers all stated that when overseas, especially in Latin American countries, you should never advertise the fact that you are from the US, and should pass yourself off as a Canadian. They said you would be much safer and better liked. One of these travelers was an former US Air Force officer.
