Actually I've heard that the character of Indiana Jones was created by Lucas as a foil to James Bond (He wished to do a bond movie but they wouldn't let him.. so he made Indy, lucky for us). Though I have also heard that Indiana is based on a real person named Richard Haliburton who was in his prime in the early 19oo's

: I've got a question that i'd like to asK:
: In the novel Indiana Jones and the Genesis Deluge ,during
: the chapter where Indy remembers being at a sultans palace as a
: child, the name Richard Francis Burton is mentioned. He seems
: to be admired by Indy like a hero.
: Later in the novel Indiana Jones and the Philosopher's stone
: ,the same Richard Francis Burton ist mentionend in the first
: chapter as the first discoverer of the city of cozan ,i think in
: 1867.
: Now my question:´Has this man really lived? He must have been
: quite an adventurer.Does anybody know about this man?
: Please answer,I'm really interested in this one.
: (If it's possible, ame your source of information)
