: At a retrospective of film maker Stanley Kubrick, held the other day at the Director's Guild of America in Los Angeles, Steven Spielberg announced that he and Kubrick (2001, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE) spent the last three years developing a new film. Spielberg was intended to direct, and Kubrick produce...and extraordinary collaboration that neither filmmaker had ever really engaged in.

: Spielberg did not comment on what the film's subject matter was about -- in keeping an honored vow of confidence to the late director -- but said that it was now scapped because of Kubrick's death.

: Not really Indy-related, but worth mentioning.

Yeah and also Spielberg and director David Lean were to collaborate on a project, too. I believe it was Nostromo, Lean was to direct, Spielberg produce. And then David Lean died in 1991, and that project was also scrapped. And Spielberg's movie, Empire of the Sun. Lean wanted to direct, but passed it down to Spielberg after he really wanted to do it. Also, on the set of Spielberg's short-lived TV series "Amazing Stories", Spielberg wanted David Lean to direct an episode. Lean asked how many days would they be shooting this. Spielberg said 5 or 6. Lean said if he added a 0 to that number, than he would do it. Lean and Spielberg sure collaborated a lot without really collaborating with him.
