: :
: : : Lucas and ILM were involved from the beginning in the special effects/computer animation of the dinosaurs.

: :
: : Abner, ILM is involved with just about EVERY film. Lucas observed the animation of the dinosaurs, but he had no true part. Just like Spielberg on the set of The Phantom Menace. He got to see all the special effects and everything, but he had no true part.

:
: He did START the company, so just farting around watching the computer animations counts in my book. :) In one of the A&E biographies (I think of Spielberg) there is a short bit with George Lucas talking about the experiments to see if they could do the dinosaurs entirely digital, and how it was such a profound moment blah blah...Just because he didn't program computers doesn't mean he played no true part. At his level in the business most of what he does is critique the work of people under him.

You are right, but he has no official credit. Look in the George Lucas: The Creative Impulse book. It has each and every Lucasfilm movie he did. There is no Jurassic Park in there. Even if he had an uncredited part, it would have listed him because Lucas was an uncredited executive producer of Body Heat (an erotic thriller) for Lawrence Kasdan (writer of Raiders), his name wasn't credited because he didn't want his name to interfere with his family movie image and he didn't want to hog the spotlight from Lawrence Kasdan (this movie was his opportunity to gain stardom as a director). The only thing George Lucas had a part in Jurassic Park was observing his friend Spielberg's work. And this movie was the one that made it possible for Lucas to continue his Star Wars movies. That's the story.
