Yes, the left-handed zipper goes back to when wealthy gentlemen had manservants who dressed them each day. It was easier for the manservant to button shirts and waistcoats with the buttons reversed (the same held true for women and their handmaidens), and the custom carried over to zippers when they were invented in the 1800's.
