Another example:

A few years back, a common Halloween mask was a ghoul with
a black shroud and a kind of wavy-looking face. Soon thereafter,
the bad guys in Scream used this common mask to disguise themselves.
The Halloween after, this particular mask was everywhere.

Even though Scream is what really brought that mask recognition,
the makers of Scream have no legal claim to the mask. They bought
it from some store for a few bucks and used it in the movie.

Lucasfilm bought jackets from Wested and used them in Indiana Jones
movies. Is this situation really that different?
