: Kate, the Academy membership is a very selective, exclusive group. To qualify for membership, one needs to
: 1. Have been nominated for an Academy Award, or
: 2. Have a significant body of work, or
: 3. Made a significant contribution to motion pictures, with proper references.
: It's not so much a quoata, as it is approval by the Academy Board of Governors. It is NOT a public forum, nor is it composed of people within the press (i.e: film critics).
