It's just not quite as shaped and defined as the one in the movies. This is intentional, and a good visual connotation. Don't you know what an unshaped fedora looks like? I've seen one of the original Raiders hats (smithsonian) and the creases have been taken out, leaving it looking not unlike what you refer to. As for the educational focus . . . yes, this was one of the original intents for the Young Indy series. What if people could accept a discernable blend of entertainment and history? The parents would laugh at the situation of Indy encountering history while at the same time it would hold their interest. And the kids would be turned on to learn more about the people they saw. Or perk up in class because, "He was on Indiana Jones!" Lucas went for a golden opportunity here. It's too bad people rejected it on the grounds that there was so little artifact hunting and melting Nazis. Bascially, not a rehash of the films. Only the best television serial ever.
