Dr Hose- you have just described my dream! (Strange how so many people on this forum think alike...) I dearly want to get a Wrangler or Land Rover Defender myself and do the same!

I highly recommend the Colorado Plateau/Four Corners region as the most beautiful I've seen so far. Right around the intersection of Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico in "Red Rock Country" there is an unbelievable amount of stuff to see. Mesa Verde, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon, Zion NP, Canyonlands, and you can visit Arches NP like Indy! A must...take some time to camp out an go rafting through the Canyonlands!
