It's no secret that after the success of Raiders of the Lost Ark, many knock-off imitations appeared on both the big and small screen (i.e. King Solomon's Mines with Richard Chamberlain, Tales of the Gold Monkey, Romancing the Stone, Jewel of the Nile, The Mummy with Brendan Fraeser(sp?), Disney's Tailspin cartoon series, etc.) as well as for video games (the most well-known being the Tomb Raider series).

The question I'm throwing out is: Why is it that with so many of these projects based off of Indiana Jones (anyone who tells you they weren't is lying through his/her teeth :) ), why is it that the Indiana Jones trilogy is still the most loved and remembered of any in this genre, moreso than any other of its kind before or since?

It can't be because it was the first of its kind, since George Lucas himself admitted that the trilogy was an homage to the Saturday-morning serials he grew up with as a kid.

What do you all think? :D
