Indy is known by everybody! Talk to someone and he/she will know the name, the character and most of the times seen the movies. (there are still people who haven't seen the movies but who know Indy)
I know some people where you would least expect they will like or know the movies and then they say "I love them, have them on video at home." and those are the same people who loves to watch those action movies with Stalone, Van Damme, Schwarzenegger, ... You know what I mean. They all love the banquet scene from Temple here in Belgium too.
Raiders is almost 20 years old now and Last Crusade just 10 and they are still loved in the same way as when they were just out (maybe more now).
Just look on the Internet, I didn't find a movie (trilogy) besides Star Wars that has as much fansites as Indy, after all those years.
