Yes, at first it appears Remy dies from an explosion in which he goes flying.
When I first watched, I didn't give a second thought.

The explosion is the last we see of Remy in that episode,
but you can hear him calling out for Indy if you listen closely.
I guess all of that fat absorbed the explosion--yeah right.
