He had some creative disputes with Bantam/Lucas. Same reason McCoy is quitting now. With Rob, though, it involves sex. He wanted to detail a bit more than the films did what exactly was going on when the camera jump-cut happens.
I really like Rob's books, but having read some of his non-Indy novels (which are also very good) I understand the objection. The Indy films just don't go there and neither should the books.
