A question about Belloq...

At the end of "Raiders" when Indy has the bazooka on Belloq he tells them that he only wants the girl. Belloq refuses and challenges Indy to blow up the Ark. Do you think Belloq has any real feelings for Marion or does he just not want to give up anything to Indy?
Marion and Belloq spent one night drinking together and spent some time together on the sub. Was this long enough for a worldly Frenchman like Belloq to develope genuine affection for her.
They didn't seem too happy with each other when they first come off the sub. Is this just a lovers tiff or did Marion totally rebuff him? If so, is he just a dope to keep trying?
