Sallah tells Indy the Ark is being loaded on a truck bound for Cairo, and Indy replies, "Truck? What truck?" as he pounds his rag-covered fist into his other hand. The scene shows that he is not a superhero but rather very vulnerable. He bleeds and hurts like the rest of us. But he is DETERMINED, suicidally determined and reckless I think.
