The Thuggee's were awesome!!! They were excellent villains. Don't get me wrong, Nazi's are good villains too, but Thuggees are more original. They rip out people's hearts! How much cooler can you get for villains? Indy in the Cold War would be just fine. Russians are also cool villains. I've always found the Cold War intriguing (and the WWII era, also). Give 'em a chance, guys!
