I've never heard anything that suggests that Lucas or Spielberg originally wanted to call the original anything besides "Raiders Of The Lost Ark", either. From what I've read, the title "Indiana Jones And The...", that was used in the other two movies (and presumably the upcoming fourth movie) was used because Spielberg and Lucas thought that it would sound more like an old movie serial title. Chances are this new change to the original is just being done to match the others (again, as I've mentioned before, hopefully this change will just be on the video box and not actually in the movie itself).

As for "Star Trek II" being done on a near-TV scale, I guess it proves that a good story is more important than a big budget.
