Remy again

I know that Remy showed up in later Episodes and I heard Remy call to Indy. The problem I have is when Indy is captured at the Somme and transported to the prison camp, the French soldier who gives Indy the higher ranking officers uniform tells him no one else survived.

Did they kill Remy at the Somme and later decide to bring him back for ratings or something?
