Whe Star Wars was originaly released it was just called Star Wars. At some point in time they realized there would be a sequel (or maybe it was after they had started work on Empire) so they changed the opening sequence so that it read Star Wars: A New Hope. That way it went well with it's two sequels. In all reality though, Star Wars never realy received a name change, just something for the sake of continuity. Star Wars is still called Star Wars, for the most part only fans refer to it as A New Hope, and then only for clairification. Anyway that is what they were talking about.
