: : My question to you is this. What did you think of the title "Raiders of the Lost Ark" the first time you heard it, before the film became a big hit and a movie phenomenon?

: :: Honestly, the title didn't bother me, but neither did it arrest my attention either. I went with my family to see it in the theater because Dad read in the paper that it starred Harrison Ford and was directed/produced by Lucas and Spielberg. At that time people were still basking in the Star Wars phenomena and the belief that whatever these individuals were involved in had to be a good movie. We went to see the matinee and the rest is history.
: While you're correct that one could easily mistake the "ark" for Noah's Ark, I still like the title. It stands apart from the "IJ and the (fill in the blank)" formula. -MP

Well, while I don't remember 1981, I DO remember 1985, when we
had just moved to Germany. That was where I first saw Raiders.
My mom and dad were about to put a movie in the VCR and it was
about 10 or 11 o'clock, way past my bedtime, but dad said I
could stay up and watch it. I was absolutely MESMERIZED. It was
the coolest, awesomest thing I had ever seen. I was hooked and
I haven't looked back since. At the school book fair, I bought
only one book: Indiana Jones and the Eye of the Fates. Still have
it, too- along with the entire Find Your Fate series, which I still
have, though I have practically read the covers off of them.
Dad used to read them to my brother and I, and he would ask us what
we wanted to do when it was decision time. Ahh childhood...
In regard to the new video title change, I don't care for it,
but it still won't change the film's content or anything. I'm
kind of hoping that they put the new title on the box ONLY, and
not insert it into the beginning of the film. And if they DO put
it into the film, will it be like the huge symbol in Temple of Doom,
or subtle lettering, like Last Crusade's title?
