: Foley artists will have the hero's arms sound louder to make it seem as if the hero is more powerful. Subtle is the art of movie making...

How true that is!

On a tour of Universal Studios a few years ago, the tour bus passed by the outside "western town" sets used in many films. It was revealed that the buildings on one side of the road would have doors that were built smaller-than-average, and that would be where the hero (ala John Wayne) would walk. Thus, he would look "larger-than-life".

Likewise, the buildings on the other side of the road would have buildings whose doors were larger-than-average, and that would be where the leading lady would walk. Thus, she would look shorter than the hero (she usually was a little shorter than him in real life, but not as much as it would look in the movie).

Ahh, the magic of movie making! :D
