I see (and do) a lot of growsing about the potential for Indy 4 to be really bad. I don't think anyone believes that it will somehow blow the other movies away. At best, it will be a decent installment in the adventures of Indy.
But here's something to consider. Most of us view the movies as sacrosanct-- the definitive story of Indiana Jones, for better or worse. After that, maybe we include the Young Indy movies, then maybe the authorizes novels. Fan fiction, good or bad, doesn't count, but those of us who write it make a real effort to observe the chronology and mythos established by those sources, but ESPECIALLY the movies.

Now...let's hypothesize that Indy 4 turns out to be a real dog...Let's say that it becomes Indiana Jones and the Revenge of the Sith Mitochlorians or something.

Do we have the b***s (brass ones) to stand up and say..."nope, that doesn't count?" Or will we take it on the chin and start writing about Indy's training to become Earth's first Jedi Knight?

Points to ponder.
