Hitchcock was a good director although I don't think he was the genius everyone calls him.
However, he had one filmmaking trick that would have ruined Indy. He has a habit of speeding up the film on all his action scenes. They end up looking like those old silent films that were hand cranked so they look unreal. Check out the car chase scene in "To Catch a Thief" or the foot chase in "39 Steps" or the carousel scene in "Strangers on a Train."
He does just the opposite in scenes where someone is falling. They fall backward in a slow, jerky fashion that looks fake. See Martin Balsam tumbling down the stairs in "Psycho" or the Statue of Liberty scene in "Sabateur" or the Mt. Rushmore scene in "North By Northwest."
If Hitchcock has directed "Raiders" we would have seen Indy running from the boulder at 40 miles an hour.

I think David Lean, who did "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Bridge on the River Kwai" would have done a cool Indy film.
