: : You're a bit off in your dating. The book upon which the movie was based was published in 1885. Therefore, it cannot be a spoof of Indiana Jones.

: Oh come on. The title, main character's name and treasure may be based on the H. Rider Haggard novel of 1885, but saying that the Richard Chamberlain movie is based on that novel is like saying that Raiders of the Lost Ark is based on the Bible. It is an unashamed rip-off of the Indiana Jones movies, complete with German bad guys (no German's in the novel) and airplanes (in 1885? maybe at Kitty Hawk)
