I think it's beat every record that it could be expected to, like the fastest film to reach x amount of money, highest opening weekend, etc. I don't see how any film released amidst the summer movie season can be expected to break a record like Titanic's. Titanic may have had great repeat business, but then it didn't have any real competition for months. It was plopped down right in the middle of winter, and a school season where it was apparently the film to go see on the weekends.
