A solar eclipse is not a typical Indy adventure but it still has
the potential of being one - I'm sure I am not the only one who
has ever thought about an Indy adventure featuring an eclipse.
Yesterday was the big day: My first total solar eclipse only few
kilometers from Vienna where I'm living. My day started early
(in fact I skipped the night completely) because bad weather
forcast let my friends and me made plans to drive in direction
southeast as far es possible to avoid the bad weather and the
expected traffic. East from Austria is Hungary and first thing we
had to get was a map to explore the - to us - unknown territory.
First meeting point in the morning was a small village named
"Ukk" (we chose it because of the name :-) where we met with
friends. Now our travelling group consist of seven people and we
headed farer east along the central line of the eclipse. Our time
started to ran up because we wanted a good observation point
before the particial phase started (11.20). The daring adventurers
always have the luck to find the right spot just in time - and so
did we :) We found an adequate hill with a perfect view to the
west (from where the shadow of the moon was going to come) near
the lake Balaton. There we got the whole show that beats most of
the special effects of modern cinema:
- An exciting particial phase because we are near th the sun's
11 year activity cycle
- The approche of the shadow of the moon with Mach 3! See the
in darkness swallow the country within 30 seconds.
- And total Solar Ecplipse for more than 2 minutes including an
active Corona and very cool bloodred Solar Protuberances.
- Dramatic weather changes because of the missing sunlight: The
temperature dropped, medium wind started and clouds developed.

I'm sure Indy never missed a chance to see an eclipse :)
