You know, that sub thing has always puzzled me. Even cutting down on the original idea in the original script, why dive in the first place? Germany wasn't at war yet, radar hadn't been adopted, or for that fact really "invented" yet to any commercial or military use in order to track them, therefore no one could follow them anyway, and a submarine makes better time on top of the water rather than underneath. I thought they were in a hurry. But then, unless they submerged, Indy couln't have boarded except along the side because of the personnel watch on the conning tower. Them diving never did make sense.
