I've always thought that an interesting artifact would be one that
picks up where the headpiece on the Staff of Ra left off. Imagine
a crystal, similar to the one on the staff, ten times larger.
One that (using prisms and lenses) could create an intense beam of
light that could destroy anything in its path when exposed to sunlight. Of sourse it would be encased so that the beam could
be "turned on" and off, maybe a metal lid on the back.
Imagine the (fill in your favorite bad guys) attempting to get this weapon.
Just an early, preliminary idea...
